Education (auditory learners) Is Top Priority: Obama Scholarships
No commentsBy Fred Jackson
Taking advantage of educational opportunities is a smart way to be successful. President Obama is a good example, and he has shown his commitment to helping others. Grants and scholarships are just the beginning of efforts to try to make over higher education.
Expenses like college tuition and housing grow even as the economy suffers. Tuition and housing costs often far exceed scholarship offers. Many potential students suffer and are unable to afford to go to college. Working, single mothers are particularly hit hard. Educating women and single moms is important to increase the workforce and help provide for children and families. The President believes in this and has begun a mission to create scholarships for moms. Federal Pell Grants have now been fondly called Obama grants. These grants award a student over $5,000 to go to college. The primary goal is to encourage single moms to return to school, and by 2012 they could receive as much as $5,400. Working mothers can pay for tuition and books or even daycare if that allows them to attend school.
Another incentive to consider is the American Opportunity Tax Credit. With this tax program, the first $4,000 of community college or university expenses are free. This $4,000 write off can be a big help to many students. A grant for a working mother as well as a tax credit can help fund much-appreciated educational advancement. Another great factor is that students aren’t particularly targeted based on what or where they study. Diversity is encouraged. Taking away a little of the financial burden of college is a helpful way to get more students enrolled.
With his actions President Obama has confirmed his belief in this issue. The stimulus plan that passed has some provisions to make the college loan process easier. There is more government emphasis on properly preparing students for their future at all levels of education. The President believes community colleges need to become viable options. A 2-year degree or the time spent learning a technical school from a community college can be a tremendous asset.
In 2007 Obama stated, “We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That’s the best investment we can make in our future.” So far Obama’s actions are backing up his words. Grants for moms are just a small but vital part of the education mission. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.

It’s Not Too Late for Learning, Moms
By Fred Jackson
Getting an education continues to be a huge key to being successful professionally and in life. Some people have suffered from lack of opportunity, and that category too often includes young mothers. Mothers who are in need of education can make a difference in their lives and the lives of their children by seeking education.
One important program that is seeking to help women is the education Grants for Moms program. Advanced education is important in today’s society, and this worthwhile program aims to help both working and stay-at-home moms reach their goals. The program draws funds from the federal Pell Grant allotment and awards as much as $5,000 per person. The award money can be used for any direct or indirect school-related expenses. The goal is to make going to college or university much more accessible.
The list of acceptable fields of study is one area of great variety. Practically any majors and careers are suitable. Business and industry are full of interesting careers, and they often begin with adequate higher education. Accomplishing personal work goals always begins with taking advantage of good opportunities. Although scholarships for moms provide a place to start, for many people it is difficult to know where that education will lead them.
Even as you’re sitting at home you can gain understanding of career prospects by doing web research. One important research tool is the Occupational Outlook Handbook, or OOH. Produced by the Department of Labor, the OOH is valuable resource to research many areas of employment. Future job predictions on a ten-year scale are the primary benefits of the OOH. Another resource by the Department of Labor is CareerOneStop, and like the OOH it can also provide assumptions about job growth. There are many other reputable websites that can provide good information. Doing various searches and visiting many sites can give a ‘big picture’ view of the areas of interest to you.
Access to education shouldn’t be stifled because of hard times. Preparing during slow times is an important way to ensure that needs are met when thing pick up. The Grants for Mothers initiative can help alleviate a little of the burden that’s placed on moms.
